Minister defends government's record on education as new free schools announced

Education secretary Gillian Keegan says school standards have "soared" under the Tories as she defended the announcement of 15 new free schools, designed to "level up opportunity across the country".

The government has confirmed a number of free schools - including the previously announced northern Brit School - will open in the next five years.

These include three schools in the North and Midlands which will open in collaboration with Eton College.
