Migration laws will hit universities, higher education bosses warn

Higher education bosses have told Sky News an increase in the minimum salary for a skilled worker visa could prevent universities competing for the best academic talent.

The changes also send the message UK universities are "closing ranks", they said.

The government announced this week it was raising the minimum salary threshold for a skilled visa would increase from £26,200 to £38,700, well above the early-career academic average of £30,000-£35,000.
