Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, the founder and chief commander of AlUmar-Mujahideen, was designated as a terrorist by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday.
In the 1999 Indian Airlines Flight (IC-814) hijacking crisis, Mushtaq was one of the terrorists freed in exchange for the hostages.
On December 31, 1999, India agreed to release three terrorists, including Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, in exchange for the safe return of 160 hostages on an Indian Airlines plane seized in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
