Mexicans working abroad sent home a record $51bn in earnings last year, nearly a third more than in 2020.
Compared with the year prior, and despite the pandemic, remittances to Mexico increased by 27 percent, placing Mexico just behind India and China in money sent home by citizens living outside of their home countries.
Experts say remittances to Mexico are expected to increase again in 2022, continuing to represent an engine driving the nation’s economy.
