The Mexican government sued United States gun manufacturers and distributors on Wednesday in the US federal court, arguing that their negligent and illegal commercial practices have unleashed tremendous bloodshed in Mexico.
The unusual lawsuit was filed in US federal court in Boston. Among those being sued are some of the biggest names in guns, including Smith & Wesson Brands and Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC.
The Mexican government estimates that half a million weapons flow from the US in to Mexico every year. They hope this will help staunch the flow.

Al Jazeera's John Holman reports from Mexico City.
