Students in Mexico returned to in-person classes on Monday.
Reopening the schools has been divisive in Mexico; some parents are pleased with the return to classroom education, but concerns over the safety of students have also set off protests.
For schools in Mexico’s most rural states, where COVID-19 contagion remains high, some schools have chosen not to reopen.
International organisations, such as UNICEF and the WHO have said fears about contagions are warranted, but have said the last year and a half has had negative effects on children and their education.
