A referendum in Mexico on whether to investigate and prosecute five former presidents for alleged corruption has failed because not enough people voted.
Only 7 percent of Mexicans participated in the vote, which needed a 40-percent turn out to make it binding.
President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador had proposed the legislation and said it would strengthen democracy but critics have dismissed it as a political stunt.
Besides, there are questions over the referendum's constitutional legality.
