Methane traps up to 36 times more heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, but while carbon dioxide sticks in the atmosphere for centuries, methane dissipates after about a decade.

World leaders pledged earlier this year to reduce the amount of methane seeping into the atmosphere.

As Mike Drolet reports, a new satellite capable of spotting methane leaks as they happen has been launched and the real-time data will be available to anybody with a computer.
