German Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised to speed up financial help for victims of the devastating floods that have killed at least 160 people in the western part of the country.
She visited Bad Munstereifel, one of the worst-hit towns; residents there are worried the process of delivering that emergency aid will be lengthy and bureaucratic.
They rely instead on the help of family, friends and strangers for now.
Merkel, who is retiring from politics after 16 years as chancellor, promised financial support soon.

Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reports from Bad Munstereifel, Germany.
