REWIND TO 2009: In the 1980s, nurse Valerie Browning packed her life in Australia and decided to live with a tribe of nomads, the Afar people. In the dry Ethiopian desert, it is expected to see tragedy and despair but Valerie sees beauty, hope and a lifestyle that should be envied by westerners.

In 2023 after being dubbed as the ‘Queen of the Desert’ by the Afar, 73-year-old Valerie still lives with the nomadic group and continues to improve their lives through maternal healthcare.
