Hundreds of people have been rescued in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy.
Nearly 100,000 migrants and refugees have arrived on boats in Italy this year, more than double the number of this time last year.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel-Hamid went on a fishing boat south of the island of Lampedusa and has this report.
