During an appearance on Monday's episode of 'The Morning Show,' Dr. Isaac Bogoch, a clinical investigator at Toronto General Hospital Research Institute, revealed the development of a brand-new antibiotic highly-effective against “nasty” drug-resistant bacteria. Dr. Bogoch said that its development was made possible with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI).

This antibiotic is said to combat acinetobacter baumannii, which was dubbed one of the world’s most dangerous drug-resistant bacterium by the World Health Organization. AI was used to help inform doctors how to best “attack” the structure of this pathogen, according to Dr. Bogoch.

On the future of AI integration into medicine, he said that the technology has the potential to transform the field overall by helping to discover new drugs and understand diseases better.
