McDonald's UK has apologised after footage posted on social media appeared to show a security guard splashing a homeless man's sleeping bag with water.

The video showed one of the workers mopping the floor where the man was sitting, sending water over his sleeping gear.

The unnamed individual was sitting on the pavement next to the restaurant in Victoria, London.

The fast food chain said it would work with the council to find the man.

"We would like to wholeheartedly apologise to the gentleman in the video and will work with the council to locate him and make amends as part of our ongoing work to support homelessness charities in & around the area," it said in a statement.
