European Union foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said Monday the EU would continue to collaborate with international partners to keep putting pressure on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, adding that the union considers "what's happening in Ukraine is a war crime, a massive war crime committed by the Russian armed forces against Ukrainian people."

He also said they were also ready to take more restrictive measures.

In addition, Borrell said the adoption on Monday of the "Strategic Compass" plan for long-term EU military action was a "historic turning point for the EU as a strategic provider." He stressed, however, that the plan was not an answer to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but an "answer to the feeling that the EU has to be more engaged" in military affairs.
