At least 50 people are dead and multiple injured after gunmen opened fire on worshippers both inside and outside a Catholic church in southwestern Nigeria on Sunday, according to witnesses and authorities.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the church killings, but it left streaks of blood on the floors and broken pews. Children were among those killed. According to reports, some kind of explosive was also used.
State police said security forces, including the military, pursued the attackers, but could not "catch up with them." The attack came as worshippers were celebrating the feast of Pentecost, an important Catholic post-Easter holiday.
