The bosses of the world's biggest social media firms have faced a hostile grilling from US lawmakers in Washington.
The Senate Judiciary Committee accused the CEOs of TikTok, X, Discord, Snap and Meta of not doing enough to protect children from online sexual abuse and other harmful content. Facebook and Instagram chief Mark Zuckerberg told lawmakers his company is working on new child protection measures. He also said research has proven social media is “on balance” not harmful to young people's mental health.
But lawmakers were unconvinced, and Zuckerberg was made to apologize to victim's families.
