Getting proper nutrition is a critical part of pregnancy, but a new UNICEF report is sounding the alarm on challenges facing mothers in several countries in Africa and the Middle East fuelled by foreign unrest.

The report found acute malnutrition among pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers increased 25 per cent in the past two years, which could negatively impact the future of the unborn children.

Globally, UNICEF estimates 51 million children under 2 years old are too short for their age, because of poor nutrition in the first six months of life.

Global’s Katherine Ward has more on the effects that this has on communities and future generations.
