'Longer term costs of not acting on climate change' will be greater than acting now

Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds has defended Labour's "green prosperity plan", which would give £28bn a year to create half a million jobs.

"The longer term costs of not acting on climate change and net zero" will be greater than acting now, Mr Reynolds said.

He was asked by Sophy Ridge whether some of this money should be spent elsewhere.

"I see fixing the economy... as not being a competing demand" - but "essential" in funding vital public services, like hospitals and schools, he added.
