Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) attempts the lunar landing of its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) spacecraft, hoping to become the world's fifth country to land on the moon after India's success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission last August. Dubbed the "moon sniper", Japan seeks to prove SLIM's experimental precision landing technology that will allow less than 100-metre error of its target site on the lunar surface.
