Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's demand for the taps to be turned off by Wednesday — a promise she made when she campaigned for governor in 2018.

Enbridge declined to shut down part of its pipeline and business leaders in Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin have joined forces with their Canadian counterparts and Canada's federal government in a legal fight to prevent Whitmer's order.

Line 5 moves more than half a million barrels a day of Western Canada crude oil to refineries in Ontario, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
