Winnipeg Police Service Insp. Jennifer McKinnon announced on Friday morning a suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Langside Street on Sunday.

Jamie Randy Felix, 32, was arrested and charged with four counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempt to commit murder. McKinnon said the suspect was known to them and that he was released on a court order but couldn't confirm the conditions of the release. A motive has not been provided and officers are investigating the relationship, if any, Felix had with the victims and the location of the shooting.

Community activist Mitch Bourbonniere responded earlier in the week following the incident saying, "These neighbourhoods have struggled with violence, rooming houses, transiency, and victims may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time." He added that although these incidents are rare, they shake the foundation of a community's sense of safety.

Point Powerline coordinator Sel Burrows weighed in with calls for community involvement. "It's not just a police's problem, neighbours need to reach out when they suspect a problem house, and the city and province need to do their part in educating citizens about how they can respond to keep their communities safe," Burrows said.

Sgt. Wade McDonald with the Winnipeg Police Service said that police are continuing their investigation and will be executing several other search warrants. He noted that the public’s assistance in this investigation was crucial. “To solve these kinds of events, we need community support,” McDonald said.
