Nick Thomas-Symonds, the Shadow International Trade Secretary, told Sky News that no government "should ever be content to see a recession".

It comes after Chancellor Jeremy Hunt said he is comfortable with Britain being plunged into recession if that's what it takes to bring down inflation.

The Labour MP said that to provide economic stability, you need political stability. But that the Conservatives are in "chaos".
