Labour: Government's 'refusal to negotiate' to blame for strikes

Shadow public health minister Andrew Gwynne has conceded that pay demands from some public sector unions are "probably" unaffordable.

But he said a refusal by the government to discuss the demands of health workers was behind the upcoming strikes by nurses.

Britain is braced for several weeks of disruption with rail workers striking on four days this week and nurses set to walk out on 15 December.
