The volcano in La Palma, Spain continued to erupt for the 23rd day on Monday, hours after a series of tremors shook the area, with the largest measuring a magnitude 3.8.

Blocks of lava as large as three-storey buildings also poured from the volcano on Sunday. With temperatures of up to 1,240 degrees Celsius (2,264 degrees Fahrenheit), the molten rock destroyed the last few remaining buildings in the village of Todoque, according to the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute.

About 6,000 people have been evacuated from their homes on La Palma, which has about 83,000 inhabitants.

Since beginning to erupt Sept. 19, surrounding land and nearly 1,200 buildings have been destroyed.
