(1999) Kylie Minogue calls it “the annihilate Kylie period”, that time when her work was dismissed, her every move criticised, her success derided. Now, 10 years on, Kylie has succeeded in winning over those critics. As Ellen Fanning reports, it’s OK now to say out loud that you’re a Kylie fan. Through the sheer force of hit songs, sell-out concert tours and enduring popularity, she’s gained what till now has eluded her - respect. In London she talks of the difficult years and the cathartic moment when she came to celebrate rather than be embarrassed by her early career. And she talks of her book, banned by censors in some countries because of nude photographs. The subject of those photos tells 60 Minutes she doesn’t know what all the fuss is about. She’s comfortable with nudity. “I normally blame it on being Australian,” she says.
