King Charles III appeared alongside Queen Camilla on the balcony of Buckingham Palace shortly after his coronation at Westminster Abbey on May 6.

The appearance from the palace’s balcony was reminiscent of when the Royal Family appeared on the palace balcony after the coronation of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in June 1956.

Elizabeth II became queen in 1952 after the death of her father. By tradition, there is a gap of time before the succession and the coronation of a new monarch.
