In 1953, the late Queen Elizabeth’s likeness made its debut on Canadian currency. Seventy years later, her recently crowned son, King Charles, is sharing the same milestone.
The Royal Canadian Mint unveiled a brand new 2023 Loonie on Tuesday, which features a portrait of the British monarch. The decision was made this year, after more than 350 artists and engravers submitted designs to the institution.
Effigy designer Steven Rosati — whose design was approved by Buckingham Palace — said he was honoured his design was chosen and that "King Charles' portrait couldn't have turned out better."
Global’s Nivrita Ganguly reports.
