U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris highlighted the impact of the global pandemic in her speech to the graduating class of the United States Naval Academy on Friday, becoming the first woman to deliver the commencement address in the organization’s nearly 175-year history.

“We know now our world is interconnected, our world is interdependent and our world is fragile,” she said.

Midshipmen who graduated and received their commissions on Friday will begin careers as Navy pilots, flight officers, SEALs, surface warfare officers, Marines and other assignments.
