Montreal’s premier comedy festival has cancelled all its performances this summer and has filed for bankruptcy protection.

Just for Laughs is citing the effects of the pandemic and increasing costs as reasons to close the curtain on the festival.

A spokesperson with Just For Laughs told Global News that 75 employees lost their jobs, adding that increasing competition from streaming services also added to the financial strain on the festival.
