Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has called for help from the United Nations following an influx of migrants in the country’s South islands.
In the span of just one week, more than 11,000 immigrants arrived in Lampedusa — almost double the island’s population.
Meloni, last year, pledged to cut down on immigration and is now facing heat in a wave of protests nationwide.
