A series of Israeli airstrikes hit Gaza, with one killing 90 people, said the Gaza Health Ministry on Monday. Israel had declared the area a safe zone, and one hospital worker says they were overwhelmed.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says that the target was the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammad Deif. He’s been described as "a ghost," evading at least seven other Israeli assassination attempts.

Deif is allegedly a main architect of the Oct. 7 attack that killed at least 1,200 people in southern Israel — but his death is unconfirmed.

Nathaniel Dove reports.
