Riam El-Safadi, a medical logistics co-ordinator volunteer for Vancouver Aid, recently spoke to Global News about his experience of entering Gaza with two suitcases of medical aid supplies to help those in desperate need in the region.

El-Safadi said he gathered medical supplies from hospitals around B.C. that no longer meet Canadian standards.

The journey into Gaza is a long and difficult one that “has to be co-ordinated with the United Nations” and “approval from the three involving countries” as well as patience because it “takes 12-14 hours to get there due to a lot of security checks,” El-Safadi said.

Once in the country, El-Safadi says hospitals “are in dire need — all of them — even now.” He added, “They thanked me so much you could see the tears in their eyes.”
