Israel orders Gazans to flee amid looming siege, WHO calls evacuating vulnerable a "death sentence"

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement to residents of Gaza on Friday morning, advising them to “evacuate immediately,” ahead of a looming siege of the enclave, triggered by a surprise attack from Hamas last Saturday.

In response to the call for evacuations, the World Health Organization (WHO) says it is a “death sentence” for residents of Gaza who are ill or critically injured and require hospital services.

Members of the United Nations (UN) echoed the WHO’s sentiment, further calling for all UN states to use their influence to help rescind the evacuation and enforce the full respect of international law in the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
