"We have all been horrified by the barbaric scenes that we saw with Hamas's indiscriminate attack yesterday," said transport secretary Mark Harper, reacting to the situation in Israel.

Mr Harper also took a dig at Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, saying "It would be nice if the Labour Party had the same position one day to the next" and defended the government decision to scrap the northern leg of HS2.
