Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was involved in a helicopter accident while returning from inaugurating a dam project in the north-western Iranian province of East Azerbaijan on Sunday.

The Iranian interior minister confirmed the incident, stating that the helicopter made a rough landing.

Iranian media reported that the Iranian foreign minister and other senior government officials were also on board. While two other helicopters in Raisi's convoy reached the destination safely, rescue teams face difficulties due to bad weather conditions.

The head of Iran's Red Crescent Society, Pir Hossein Kolivand, said on state TV that "Weather conditions are very bad, and the accessibility of the location is also very difficult. Colleagues are doing their best."
