Human rights activists in Indonesia's capital Jakarta protested on Thursday against Prabowo Subianto's projected victory in the presidential election, after unofficial counts that gave the ex-special forces commander a clear-cut win in a single round of voting.
"He doesn't consider women's rights, disability rights. It's ruined and I have no hope," one activist said.
The former defence minister has long been dogged by accusations of past misdeeds, including involvement in the kidnapping of student activists in 1998 and human rights abuses in Papua and East Timor. The allegations are unproven, and he has always denied any responsibility.
