India's JKL court issues directions for Wular lake restoration & protection

Decades of mismanagement are choking Wular freshwater lake, which used to be one of the largest in Asia.
Nestled in the Himalayas, the Wular lake is a critical water source in the region and thousands of people depend on it.
However, in a matter of decades, it shrunk by nearly half because Hundreds of thousands of willow trees were planted around the lake for firewood.
Creating mounds of silt that are choking waterways, affecting vegetation and water quality.
The government aims to cut down two million willow trees by March and plant other eco-friendly trees.
Now The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh directed the amicus curiae to make additional suggestions regarding developing and cleaning the Wular lake.
