Rescue crews used boats to rescue people in parts of India on Sunday and Monday to help people who had been stranded by rising flood waters due to heavy rain that had killed more than 160 people as of July 26.

Among those rescued was a COVID-19 patient that the National Disaster Response Force said his oxygen had "dipped" and needed to be taken to hospital. They also brought a dog to dry land who had been stranded on the roof of a hotel.

Last week, parts of India's west coast saw up to 594 millimetres, or 23 inches, of rainfall. According to reports, the western states of Maharashtra and Goa, as well as Karnataka and Telangana in the south have been the most affected by the rain.
