Swept by the second COVID-19 wave, infections in India rose by 3.14 lakh, the highest-ever single-day rise reported by any nation, taking the country's caseload to 1.59 crore. The country also saw another new grim record with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a day at 2,104. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cancelled his visit to West Bengal tomorrow to campaign for the election, citing meetings to review the Covid situation in the country. The centre should ensure that Delhi receives its full 480-tonne quota of oxygen and any non-compliance "will be seen very seriously as this is likely to result in grave loss of life," the Delhi High Court said today amid a desperate oxygen crisis in the national capital. In the backdrop of oxygen tankers being stopped in some states, especially Haryana, the court also said they should be brought in through a special corridor and with paramilitary security.
