India has banned several single-use plastic items and plans to phase out more by the end of the year.
The country is a signatory to a recent United Nations resolution to end plastic pollution.
But many of those who use and manufacture plastic products say they are not ready for the transition.
Government agencies in New Delhi say inspection teams have collected more than $150,000 in fines. Violators could also be arrested.
Later this year, more products are expected to be banned nationwide as India aims to become single-use plastic free by the end of the year.
