Never before has a Chinese head of state canceled a G-20 meeting - THE forum for the most important industrialized and emerging countries. Xi Jinping is now sending his Premier Li to New Delhi - this will most likely be seen as an affront by host Modi. Yet Xi and Modi certainly pursue common interests - against Western dominance. On the other hand, they are arch-rivals with leadership aspirations for the global South. In addition, China's economy is weakening, while India is catching up enormously.
