Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, has been granted protective bail after facing charges in Lahore High Court on Monday. Bibi was co-accused of corruption alongside her 70-year-old husband earlier this month.

On May 9, Khan was arrested in the same case, stirring violent protests across the country. On May 15, just a few days after the politician’s release, thousands of government supporters marched to Islamabad Supreme Court to protest, after their alleged “leniency” towards Khan.

Before visiting Lahore High Court with Bibi, Khan expressed fear that the Pakistan government was planning to arrest his wife as what he claimed was a campaign against him.
