The decision to allow former U.S. president Donald Trump to remain on the ticket in Illinois was unanimous even after its hearing officer — a retired judge and Republican — said the evidence that Trump participated in an insurrection was overwhelming, thus disqualifying him from the race.
It’s part of a growing movement from petitioners who argue that under the U.S. Constitution, anyone who participates in an insurrection would not be allowed to run for office.
It's never been used to go against a presidential candidate.
