On Tuesday, United States Rep. Illhan Omar held a press conference denouncing Islamophobia, following comments made by Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (R).

Omar outlined incidents of Islamophobic behaviour she has faced since entering Congress, including a fellow member joking on her first day that her hijab could be used to hide C4 explosives.

"On my first day as I got sworn in. My colleague, my then colleague, Stephen King claimed another member said of my hijab that there might be four pounds of C-4 under it that would wipe out half of Congress," Omar told reporters in Washington Tuesday.

During the briefing she played a threatening voicemail she received by an unknown caller, threatening that she wouldn't live much longer.

Boebert - an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump - has previously referred to Omar as a member of a "jihad squad" and said it would be safe to ride with her in a Capitol elevator - if she was not wearing a backpack.
