Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula continued to spew lava this week, as seen in mesmerizing footage captured by a drone sent into an active crater, which started to melt as it got too close to the heat.

Drone operator Bjorn Steinbekk Kristjánsson recorded footage travelling over an active crater, and as it dipped through the crater, the footage glitches before blacking out as the drone melts.

Steinbekk said that recording this footage was a “great ending” to his project filming the eruption over the past six weeks.

The volcano has been erupting since March 15.
