Residents of Shanxi’s Yongji village took part in a traditional parade as part of Chinese New Year celebrations that's been performed since the 1850s. They carried blocks of ice, 10 kilograms each, on their shirtless backs while also playing drums. The tradition goes back to times when the town was occupied and soldiers were sent to carry the ice to put out battle fires. The parade now honors the local residents’ strengths.
