Thai nationals released from Hamas captivity returned home to their families after arriving in Thailand.

Walking into the embrace of his family in northeastern Nakhon Phanom province, Natthaporn Onkeaw broke down into tears. After almost two months of being held underground in the Gaza Strip by Hamas, uncertain of his fate, he finally made his way home on Friday into the arms of his loved ones.

The 26-year-old, who had worked on a farm in Israel growing oranges and limes, was among one of the first confirmed Thai hostages during the first few days of the Hamas assault on southern Israel on Oct. 7 when a photograph of him and three other Thai fellow mates circulated online.

"I can't describe it. It's like I died and was reborn again," Natthaporn said of his release.

And after nearly five years apart from family in Thailand and almost 50 days of being held in captivity in Gaza by the Hamas militant group, Natthawaree Mulkan, a 35-year-old Thai worker in Israel, returned home and reunited with her mother. Natthawaree was captured by the Hamas from a kibbutz near the Gaza border along with her partner, 45-year-old Boonthom Phankhong on Oct. 7.

"Normally, Israel would give us a heads-up; they'd inform our employer, who'd then tell us there would be a shooting today, and we should take cover in the shelters provided at each workplace. But that day, nobody informed us. Nobody knew," Phankhong said.
