Hurricane Beryl upgraded to category five as it slams into Caribbean

Widespread damage has been reported only hours after Hurricane Beryl first made landfall in the southeastern Caribbean.

Officials say it is the earliest ever time of the year that a storm of this strength has formed in the Atlantic.
