A team of scientists in Australia have been teaching a bunch of human brain cells to play the ‘70s video game ‘Pong,’ as part of a study into learning and AI.
The team worked with hundreds of thousands of human brain cells grown in a petri dish on top of microelectrodes – a hybrid they called 'DishBrain' – and discovered that ‘DishBrain’ was able to get the hang of the game in just five minutes, compared to an artificial counterpart, which took 90 minutes to master the game.
