Twice the telescopes = twice as iconic ????

Take in these views from the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes, all featuring the spectacular star-forming region known as the Pillars of Creation.

Both telescopes see in different wavelengths of light, so working together, we get a broader view of these pillars: including visible, near-infrared, and mid-infrared observations!

Different aspects of this cosmic vista are highlighted in different lights. Visible and mid-infrared data emphasize the presence and distribution of dust and gas, which helps scientists learn more about star formation. Near-infrared images from Hubble and Webb unveil thousands of stars from the shrouds of gas and dust, because near-infrared light can peer through these opaque regions.

The Pillars of Creation reside within the Eagle Nebula, about 6,500 light-years away.
